Samsung XE500T Windows 8 Tablet at Staples for $599

I picked up the Samsung XE500 at Staples on Friday 26th release date, and better incentive was that Staples is running a great deal on the XE500. Staples is offering a great deal at the moment and saving you $50.

The XE500T has the full version of Windows8, with the new Atom processor. So far I will test some more and compare to the Microsoft Surface Tablet, but the battery life on the XE500 has been great. One thing that is leaning me towards the XE500 is that I can run full Windows applications and really like that it has the digitizer that allows me to markup. But I will see which one will best fit my needs, both are great devices but only one will win.

Heya nice to see someone start grabbing and testing these atom devices. Its been a cpl of days can you provide any comment on performance as well as the numbers you are seeing from battery life?

I will finish up a quick review later today. But to answer you on the battery, so far battery life is amazing. I have some videos to upload, should give you guys an idea how well the XE500T stands up to real world use.

Read your review on UMPC, super stuff.

Could you tell me what resolution it went up to when hooked up to your 24" monitor? Does it still only go up to 1366x768 on the monitor or can it go up to 1920x1080?

Thanks!

@Vladdie, yes the resolution can be set at 1920 x 1080. Depending on monitor resolution. I believe my monitor is 1920 x 1680 and works great with ATIV Smart PC. Been testing as my desktop for the past 3 days. Normally I use my Samsung Series 7 Slate as my desktop.

Great, thanks for confirming that.

Hope you do some more testing of the Samsung Ativ Smart PC, want to see how this device handles a variety of games. Another youtuber tested Limbo and it was unplayable but that game is odd and has virtually no graphical options, still a point and click adventure Machinarium ran perfectly smoothly so that's alright for me.

This may be too much to ask but could you possibly install this demo of Deponia and let me know if it runs okay on the Ativ? The download is bigger than I thought it would be so no worries if you can't.

My sons school in Ankara/Turkey will start to distribute this week. But at a price of nearly 1000$ including the licences of the programs for the education system. Contains keyboard too.
Good to hear about the battery life improvement.

Great to hear that schools are moving more and more towards tablets in classrooms. The ATIV is pricey with keyboard, but you get more options as you can use as a tablet or dock it for use as a laptop with full keyboard. In a year we should see the Hybrid tablets start around $499 with keyboard dock. Same as we are now seeing low end touch screen laptops that are 11.6-inch screen. Still powerful enough for school work.

Can you test some kind of hd mkv video to see how the atom does in that regard?

Thanks

Hi HG, I'm sure you have more important things to do but did you get a chance to test that demo I linked to or any games?

Someone posted in a forum that even games like Fruit Ninja, Hydro Thunder and Riptide have unplayable framerates. I think you can get them from the Windows Store. I don't understand how they have bad performance when they play fine on the Surface RT which is less powerful than the Ativ.

If you get a chance please could you let me know your experience with these?
