Peak Design Everyday Backpack 20L — Why I Love It (and Which Color I Chose)

I’ve been using Peak Design gear for a long time, and the Everyday Backpack 20L is one of those pieces that just works whether I’m out on a hike, traveling, shooting photos, or carrying everyday essentials.

What’s Great About the Everyday Backpack 20L

  • Perfect size (20 L): For me, this is the sweet spot; it’s spacious enough to hold camera gear + extra items, but not so large that it becomes bulky or cumbersome for everyday use, hikes, or travel.

  • Versatile uses: I regularly use it for:

    • Camera gear (when I’m shooting photos on hikes or trips)

    • Everyday carry: clothes, laptop/tablet, water, snacks, and personal items

    • Travel & vacations — as a carry-on or day-pack

    • Hiking & outdoor adventures — it’s light enough for long walks, but structured and roomy enough for all my gear

  • Comfortable to carry: The shoulder straps are wide and well-padded enough that even when the backpack is loaded heavily, it doesn’t dig into you or feel exhausting at least in my experience.

  • Balance of portability and capacity: 20 L hits a sweet middle ground, not too small, not too big. For me, that means I get plenty of room without sacrificing comfort or practicality.

Build Quality & Design (What We Know)

The Everyday Backpack 20L is built to be durable, versatile, and quality-oriented. It’s designed to handle camera gear safely, but also to transition seamlessly into a travel / everyday / hiking backpack when I’m not carrying cameras. The design includes devoted internal space and structure for gear, while still feeling sleek and light enough for daily carry.

My Review: Kelp vs. Coyote — Which I Chose & Why

In the video, I tested both colorways: Kelp and Coyote. I will let the viewers know at the end, which colorway I will be choosing.

Why Kelp? It mostly comes down to maintenance and practicality. While the Coyote looks great, many users (and my own experience) show that the lighter tone/material stains easily and can be hard to clean. Mine already had a noticeable mark straight out of the box. For regular use (everyday carry, hiking, travel, photos), I decided Kelp would stay looking nicer and require less care over time.

My Verdict

For me, the Everyday Backpack 20L hits the mark more than any other pack I’ve tried. It adapts to everything I throw at it — camera gear, travel gear, hiking essentials, daily carry, without feeling like a bulky luggage bag. It’s light, comfortable, roomy, and versatile.

If you want a backpack that works for photography, travel, hikes, vacations, commuting, and daily life reliably, comfortably, and in a size that’s just right, the Everyday Backpack 20L is a top contender. And, if you ask me, go with Kelp for easier upkeep and long-term practicality, and really like the color!
